Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

The advisory unit has been established to build up and spread knowledge about the use of advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery .

Laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) is a surgical method that is increasingly carried out in favor of open surgery. Compared with an open operation, laparoscopic surgery provides smaller operation wounds, usually less pain, less complications, shorter period of sick leave and lower risk of adhesions.

Laparoscopic equipment is also used in connection with examinations and diagnostic procedures.

The advisory unit will monitor and develop the use of equipment and methods, and contribute to the development of professional networks within the health regions that can take over and continue this work locally.

The advisory unit is located at St. Olavs Hospital HF, Trondheim, Norway
